The Office of Vocations is once again hosting a festival for Altar Servers throughout the state of Maine.
This year, the festival will take place at St. John the Baptist Church and St. John’s Community Center on Pleasant Street in Brunswick, Maine.

The Festival includes a special Mass with Bishop Deeley, servers, and their families; fun server games; and a family BBQ dinner.

SCHEDULE

1:30PM – Servers arrive and register for the event with family members. Servers vesting for Mass should arrive by 1:30PM and go directly to the new St. John’s Community Center to get ready.

2:00PM – Mass with Bishop Deeley and clergy in St. John’s Church. Servers up to age 18 are encouraged to bring robes or cassocks from their local parishes (with permission) and to vest for the Mass and sit together with other servers.

3:30PM – Server games on the grounds of St. John’s Church and School. Servers have time to change after Mass into more athletic attire for the server games. Games are for servers up to age 18.

5:30PM – The Knights of Columbus are serving a BBQ dinner of hot dogs, hamburgers, and veggie burgers. Families who wish to stay for dinner must register online by July 26th and are asked to donate $10 to help cover costs.

Attire: Altar Servers should dress up for Mass. No tee shirts, open toed shoes, or jeans. Servers should bring a change of active clothes for the games after Mass. Parents/Guardians and Siblings can also bring casual clothing to change into for the afternoon if they would like.

Vesting for Mass: All servers are invited, with permission from their priests or altar server coordinators, to bring a server robe or cassock and surplice from their parish to wear for Mass with Bishop Deeley. Servers who plan to wear robes or cassock and surplice at Mass must arrive at the St. John Community Center by 1:30pm so that they can prepare for Mass.

Sponsored by the Diocese of Portland Office of Vocations in collaboration with St. Michael’s Parish and School and the Knights of Columbus.
