WHY DOES THE CHURCH BELIEVE THAT? HOW CAN I EXPLAIN THIS TO OTHERS?

Sometimes, we have difficulty understanding Catholic teaching and even greater difficulty in explaining it to others.

Discussion & Discipleship is a new collaborative group where young adults come together to work through these questions! As a group, we examine issues of politics, culture, science, law, and philosophy, all from the Catholic perspective.

Please join us for pizza and fellowship, followed by drinks at a local establishment.

*THIS MONTH’S TOPIC: Racism

Meeting details ~
Friday, April 26, 2019 @ 7:15-9:15pm
(One selected Friday per month)
Archdiocese of NY – 7th Fl. Conference Room
1011 First Avenue, between E. 55th and E. 56th St.
New York, NY 10022

Topic ~
This month, we will discuss racism. What does the Church teach about racism? How does racism intersect with issues of economic inequality, education, and criminal justice? Are certain perspectives necessarily racist? How should Catholics navigate these issues? The readings are (1) sections 17, 19, 23-25 from The Church and Racism (The Pontifical Council on Justice and Peace); and (2) pages 21-23 from Open Wide Our Hearts (USCCB Pastoral Letter). Participants are strongly advised to read the selections prior to the meeting in preparation for the group discussion.
