Presenter: Dr. Michon Matthiesen
Biography: Dr. Michon Matthiesen holds a Licentiate in Sacramental Theology, and an MA in English and Divinity, as well as a PhD in Systematic Theology from Boston College. Though rooted in the thought of Thomas Aquinas, she enjoys reading theologians of the early twentieth-century who were keen to retrieve the rich and majestic thought of the early Church Fathers. Her oldest and enduring love of literature lead her to studies in liturgical and sacramental theology. Her book, Sacrifice as Gift, urges a recovery of an understanding of Eucharistic sacrifice that is completed by a theology of grace and contemplative prayer. She has also written on The French School of Spirituality, Flannery O’Connor, Thomas Aquinas and Romano Guardini. Dr. Matthiesen serves as Asst. Professor of Theology at University of Mary – Bismarck.

Romano Guardini (1885-1968) was a gifted theologian whose works have impacted the life of the Church for over a century. It can be said that his voice has filled the pontificates of both Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI as well as Pope Francis. An astute observer of the times, Guardini articulated the essentials to a world that was radically changing, and provided the foundation for the New Evangelization. His profound theological insights into the nature and spirit of the liturgy reminds us that “nothing done by nature and grace is done in vain”. Join us for a presentation celebrating the centennial of the publishing of “Spirit of the Liturgy”.
