Eileen Benthal has a special heart for people disabilities and families who care for them. She is the author of Breathing Underwater: A Journey of Hope and co-author of Navigating Deep Waters: Meditations for Caregivers. She also writes a bi-weekly spiritual reflection column entitled: “Life on Purpose” at RiverheadLocal.com. Eileen is a worship leader in the Diocese of Rockville Centre on Long Island, New York. She uses her gift of song as a cantor and in workshops and presentations in churches and healthcare conferences. She is a leader and speaker for Catholic women’s groups and a worship leader for Magnificat Ministry /Suffolk County Chapter on the East End of Long Island. Eileen is a wife and mother of four children, the youngest of whom is now a young adult with disabilities who was born with a life-threatening genetic disease. Eileen recently founded Johanna’s Hope, a non-profit dedicated to encouraging people with disabilities and their families to find hope and to advocate for their special needs. In her talks, and in her writing, Eileen shares her family’s miraculous and inspiring journey of faith in the midst of severe trials. Eileen is a fierce defender of the dignity of all human life and a speaker who advocates for families and people with disabilities.
