Praying through Art Workshop: Byzantine Icons

Feb 17th—930-4pm, parish hall
Feb 11: last day to register
$75 to cover all materials and instructors costs

Do something different this Lent. Join us for a very special day recollection for the lenten season, as we learn and reflect on the sacred art of Byzantine Icons, and their role in prayer. Fr. Brendan McAnerney, OP, a noted expert in iconography, will give us a special lecture in the morning on Byzantine Icons–the theology, practice, examples, and meaning of each step of the process.

In the afternoon, we will have a practicum with Michael Stroup, who is well-trained and practicing iconographer. Michael will walk us through the step by step process of painting our own icon.

No art background is necessary. All materials are provided. This workshop is open to all levels from absolute beginners to advanced. Sacred art is first and foremost active prayer. The point is to have fun, learn something new, spend time with God in active prayer.

Space is limited to 20 so reserve your spot now. Click here for more information:

Bonus sessions for all participants: Make your icon your creative prayer for the whole Lenten season. All participants of the Feb 17th workshop will be invited to drop in and paint your icon with the Guild all afternoons of Lent! We just ask for a nominal fee of $10 per drop-in to help cover pigment costs. More information will be available on the day of the workshop.
